The Holyrood distillery in Edinburgh has quite the selection of interesting gins under the Height of Arrows banner and Heavy is no exception. To create it, the brand roasted juniper, extracting more robust (or heavy, geddit?) flavours that were then balanced by being sweetened. It’s really as an Old Tom style gin, but expect it to taste a little different than most you’ve tried.

Nose: Delicate and impressive depth on the nose.

Palate: This is extremely rich and very balanced in flavour.

Finish: Quite delicate and smooth texture on the long finish.

Distillery Information

The Holyrood Distillery in Edinburgh was founded in 2019 by David Robertson, former master distiller at The Macallan, and Rob Carpenter, a Canadian lawyer, and founder of the Canadian branch of the Scotch Malt Whisky Society. It was the first single malt distillery in Edinburgh since 1925. As is customary for new ventures, Holyrood produces a range of unaged spirits including gin as well as doing contract distilling while we patiently wait for the release of its first single malt whisky.
