Punchy aromas of green citrus, bell pepper and sea foam come with top-heavy pyrazinic notes. A strong coastal green character drives this Leyda SB, which tastes of celery, bell pepper and briny citrus fruits.

        Producer Information

Kalfu is a brand of the Chilean winery, Via Ventisquero, founded in 1998 by Gonzalo Vial. Kalfu is the Mapuche (the indigenous people of present day south-central Chile and southwestern Argentina) word for blue, and was chosen due to the vineyard’s proximity to the Pacific Ocean and the endless blue skies of the region. The estate owns vineyards in the Leyda Valley, Casablanca Valley, Colchagua Valley and the Atacama Desert – the worlds’ driest desert where the vineyards are planted on saline soils. All the sustainably farmed vineyards benefit from the cooling effects of the ocean, meaning a longer ripening period which emphasises all the flavours of the grapes. There are three varietal ranges, named after sea creatures which are depicted on the contemporary labels. The Molu wines represent the starfish; Molu means west or where the sun sets, and the Mapuche believed that as the earth was rotating the stars would fall into the deep depths of the ocean and become starfish. This vibrant fruit-driven selection consists of a Sauvignon Blanc, Chardonnay and Pinot Noir. The Kuda wines are named after the delicate and unique seahorse and consist of a Sauvignon Blanc, unoaked Chardonnay and Pinot Noir; these are fresh and fruity elegant wines. The Sumpai wines are named after mythical half human half fish Mapuche beings which perhaps resemble mermaids or mermen, and a Sauvignon Blanc, Pinot Noir and Syrah represent this full-bodied selection. Kalfu has something to suite every palate – Taste The Blue!
