Producer Information

Laherte & Frres is a sought-after Champagne grower based in Chavot-Courcourt, just to the south of Epernay in an area between the Cte des Blancs and the Valle de la Marne. Its wine line-up features all seven different grape varieties grown in Champagne. Pinot Meunier plays a strong role here. The estate now comprises 11 hectares (27 acres) of vines in different parts of the Champagne region. Over half of this can be found in the village of Chavot, and 80 percent within five minutes’ drive. In all there are 75 different parcels. No herbicide or insecticide is used. Sulfur and copper are used against mildew, though fungicide might be used in times of extreme pressure. Otherwise, plant-based and biodynamic preparations (500 and 501) are used. The estate was founded by Jean-Baptiste Laherte in 1889, planting most of his vines in Chavost, later renamed Chavot. In 2002 Thierry and Christian Laherte (the sixth generation) were joined by Thierry’s son Aurlien (the seventh). The latter has headed the company since 2005. Along with his friend Raphal Brche. Aurlien founded the Terres et Vins group of Champagne producers in 2009. Many of the most sought-after growers are members.
